Apostle Dr. James Owens

Dr. James E. Owens was born and raised in Memphis, Tennessee, where he was deeply influenced by his upbringing in the Church of God in Christ. His parents, William and Betty Ann Owens, were devoted members who served under J.O. Patterson Sr. during the early years of their marriage. Named in honor of the late Presiding Bishop J.O. Patterson Sr., Dr. Owens felt the call to ministry at the age of 18 while studying at Oral Roberts University. From 1984 to 1987, he pursued majors in music and theology, laying a strong foundation for his lifelong dedication to ministry and service.

Shortly after beginning his journey in ministry, Dr. Owens married his beloved wife, Lynette. Together, they have been married for over 30 years and are the proud parents of three talented adult children: Cortez (36), Britney (32), and James Jr. (30), all residing in Southern California. The headquarters for New Beginnings International, the ministry they lead, is based in Hemet, California. New Beginnings International is blessed with committed partners, and the ministry is passionate about serving others. Dr. Owens and the ministry have been called to international outreach, sharing the message of faith and hope in places such as Kenya, India, and Pakistan.

Dr. Owens’s educational and professional accomplishments are extensive. He holds an AA, BA, M.Div., and Ph.D., reflecting his commitment to continuous learning. He also served honorably in the U.S. Army for 22 years, achieving the rank of MSG/E8 and completing two overseas deployments. These experiences have contributed to his disciplined, compassionate approach to leadership.

With 38 years in ministry and 25 years as a pastor, Dr. Owens has achieved much, always attributing his success to the grace of Jesus Christ. He remains deeply grateful for the opportunities he has received and is committed to fulfilling the assignments Christ has set before him. Dr. Owens continues to embrace new phases in his life and ministry, striving to make a lasting impact and to lead with integrity and faith.

 

Dr. Lady Lynette Owens

Dr. Lynette Owens was born and raised in Chicago, Illinois. She is the daughter of Prentiss Lee and Eunice Porter, both originally from Jackson, Mississippi (deceased). From an early age, Dr. Owens demonstrated a desire for a deeper understanding of Scripture, which inspired her to actively seek God’s purpose for her life. In 2025, she earned her doctoral degree from New Beginnings International, further strengthening her commitment to ministry and leadership.

In 1987, Dr. Owens experienced a transformative period in her life after joining a small storefront church. It was there she cultivated a strong faith in the power of God’s Word and found fulfillment through her spiritual journey. During this time, she accepted Jesus Christ as her personal Lord and Savior and committed herself to a life of service. As she sought God’s guidance, she met and married Pastor James E. Owens in 1987, marking the beginning of their shared ministry.

Together, Dr. Owens and her husband are the proud parents of three children: Cortez, Britney, and James Jr. Dr. Owens has been called to minister to families, with a particular focus on strengthening the family unit.

Dr. Owens is known for her compassionate approach to ministry, especially in her work with families. She is passionate about creating opportunities for restoration and wholeness within family units, including opening shelters and supporting those in need. She draws inspiration from 3 John 2 (KJV): “Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospers.”

Dr. Owens is the founder of Women Walking in Newness (WWIN), a nonprofit organization dedicated to empowering women. She is deeply committed to leaving an enduring, positive impact through her ministry and charitable work. Dr. Owens strives to fulfill her calling, aspiring to one day hear the words of Matthew 25:21 (KJV): “Well done, thou good and faithful servant.”
